Class Schedule

What is the New York State Concealed Carry Firearm Safety Training?

As of September 1st, 2022 it is mandated that all applicants of a concealed carry license in NYS, which include those that live in NYC, Nassau County, Suffolk County, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, etc. and most recently, non –residents of New York must take this class prior to being approved for a concealed carry license. Out-of-State residents will apply for a Special Carry license through the New York City Police Department. The Concealed Carry and Special Carry license issued by the NYPD is valid throughout New York State. The Special Carry license from NYPD is the license issued to those that possess a concealed carry license from their resident county or state. 

The class covers topics that are given to duly authorized instructors, New York Penal Law § 265.00(19), as per New York Penal Law § 400.00(19). These topics include the laws regarding firearm ownership in NYS/NYC, use of deadly physical force, concealed carry situational awareness, firearm storage requirements, best practices when encountering law enforcement, and many more. This covers the in-person live classroom instruction. The 2-hour live-fire training consists of range safety, safe drawing of a firearm from a holster, firearm condition check, safely discharging a firearm, etc. 

The course ends with a written proficiency exam as well as a live-fire proficiency assessment (this is conducted after the above has been completed). 


Fees

The fee for class and if you would like for us to complete the application for you is due at class. 

(see attached flier on last page) 

The below application fee(s) are due when your application is ready to be submitted to the NYPD. 

(includes 2% convenience fee for credit card transactions)

Concealed Carry - $346.80 

Rifle/Shotgun - $142.80 

Fingerprint fee of $88.25 is paid at your fingerprint appointment. If you have been fingerprinted for a premises or rifle/shotgun license previously you do not need to be fingerprinted again for the concealed carry license. No other exceptions. 


The process to apply for a concealed carry/special carry license in NYC is as follows:

  1. Take NYS Concealed Carry Firearm Safety Training 
  2. If you live outside of New York City (ex: Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Orange, other counties in NYS, NJ, PA, FL, etc.) then you will apply to your respective county or State for a concealed carry license, if applicable, then you can go to the next step below. 
  3. Submit necessary documents and information to us to complete application, if applicable
  4. Await email to schedule fingerprint appointment 
  5. Attend fingerprint appointment and interview 
  6. Wait for approval (no specified wait time)
  7. Receive approval letter via e-mail and follow directions on letter  


Am I eligible to apply to possess a firearm in the United States as per 18 United States Code 922 (g)?

  1. Have you ever been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year? 
  2. Are you a fugitive from justice?
  3. Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? *The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medical or recreational purposes in the state where you reside
  4. Have you ever been adjudicated as mentally defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution?
  5. Have you been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions?
  6. Are you subject to a court order restraining you from harassing, stalking or threatening your child or an intimate partner or child of such partner?
  7. Have you ever been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence?
  8. Have you renounced your United States citizenship?
  9. Are you an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States? 


Am I eligible to possess a firearm under New York State Penal Law § 400.00?

The applicant has not been convicted within five years of the date of the application of any of the following:

(i) assault in the third degree, as defined in section 120.00 of this chapter;


(ii)  misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, as defined in section eleven hundred ninety-two of the vehicle and traffic law; or


(iii) menacing, as defined in section 120.15 of this chapter;


NYC Rules and Regulations Title 38 § 5-10 Grounds for Denial of Handgun License

(a) The applicant has been arrested, indicted or convicted for a crime or violation except minor traffic violations, in any federal, state or local jurisdiction.


(e)   The applicant made a false statement on their application, or failed to disclose their complete arrest history, including sealed arrests. Sealed arrests are made available to the License Division pursuant to Article 160 of the Criminal Procedure Law when an application has been made for a license to possess a gun.


(g)   The applicant has a history of one or more incidents of domestic violence.

  

(h)   The applicant has a poor driving history, has multiple driver license suspensions or has been declared a scofflaw by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.


(j)   The applicant has been terminated from employment under circumstances that demonstrate lack of good judgment or lack of good moral character.


(l)   The applicant has failed to pay legally required debts including but not limited to child support, taxes, fines or penalties imposed by governmental authorities.


(m)   The applicant fails to cooperate with the License Division's investigation of their application or fails to provide information requested by the License Division or required by this chapter.


If you answered “Yes” to any of the above questions then you are not eligible to possess a firearm as per 18 United States Code 922 (g), NYS Penal Law  §400 and/or NYC Rules and Regulations Title 38 § 5-10

therefore you would not be approved for the license.
